Start here for your boudoir session

So you have booked your boudoir session and you are feeling a tad overwhelmed. If you have booked your session with me you will receive all the prompts of what to do and when. If you have not scheduled your session with me, I think this blog post will still be beneficial for you.

Pack some options.

Bring something bright and colorful with you, but don’t overdo it. Your session should be just as you—after all, that’s what branding is about! Choose several colors that match your personality and style, and bring those pieces to your shoot. You can even try out each color, showing off its different shades.

SO often people just think to bring black. Black is not the most flattering color, so I encourage you to look into variety.

Choose your outfits.

You want to choose what you wear before you even get to the studio. That means trying everything on before you come in. It is great to have form fitting pieces. Anything too baggy will not be flattering. Sometimes it’s great if one of your options isn’t exactly right for the day—maybe you love a bold color but need some extra layers or maybe your perfect outfit is something simple yet classy. Check the little details when choosing your outfits so no time goes by and you regret nothing.

Get their take.

If you have already shared with your partner that you are doing this, ask them what they like. I do really emphasize that this session is meant for you more than them, but it can be fun to let them participate.

Consider hiring a makeup artist.

If you want your kids to look like they just walked off of stage, then consider paying a professional makeup artist to paint their faces or wack-dab their braids before your photo session. Hiring a professional will allow your children to feel comfortable in front of the camera and will help them express their genuine personalities. Professional makeup also creates smooth images that don’t need extra hands to pull together because everyone can agree on who looks like what.

Know that when you gook your session with me, a hair and make up artist will be included in your day.

Stay hydrated—and don’t skip breakfast.

I cannot tell you how important it is to stay properly hydrated. Not only does lack of water make you look more pale, but also you will actually lose fluid and muscle tone as well as energy. If you aren’t appropriately fueled, you won’t be able to work through a photo session.

Bring along any materials you want.

That’s right! You can bring whatever items or stories matter most to you. I have had people bring in a variety of props. Sometimes props work and sometimes they don’t. I will of course alway try, but please understand if it just is not meshing.

Have your boudoir session done early.

You know your schedule better than anyone, so try to book your session as soon as possible after you decide on a date. Keep in mind the session is really just really the beginning. You will return in 10-14 days for your viewing, and depending what you decide on it can take several weeks for completion.
