Day in the Life of your Family
Day in the Life
Family Session
So many times people ask me to do family sessions. I look at them with their two or three kids under the age of seven and I know exactly what is going to happen.
Mom wants the holiday card. She swears this year it is going to be perfect, so she plans for it. Mom calls me and we schedule for a Sunday between the morning nap and the afternoon nap right after lunch. We only have an hour, and truth be told we really only have 20 minutes. You will see later why that 20 minutes is really only 360 seconds. .
As it is, I discourage weekend shoots, there are too many people out. Tuesdays are really the best day. Three days before the shoot the weather forecast calls for 40% chance of thunderstorms, not enough to keep us away…this is our only chance.
On Friday evening I get a call from Mom saying that Janie has a runny nose, but Sam is a ok, and this is the only Sunday the football team isn’t playing. We are going to do it on Sunday.
Sunday morning rolls around and naturally things are hectic. When you have two children under 7 and you have to be somewhere at exactly 12:30 the chances of a successful arrival time only happen in Hollywood. Keep dreamin!
Finally at 1:19 everyone shows up. Janie is rubbing her eyes and hiding under moms dress. Sam is running around like a wild man, and Dad certainly has zero desire to be there. “Mom, are you okay? You look a little stressed”
Mom swears she is fine, but can we hurry this up. At this point I’ll be lucky if everyone can even look at the camera. Forget a smile, because everyone is hangry now. Well, there’s always photoshop. No. No. NO!
Stop forcing the holiday card photo when no one wants to do it. Imagine just living life and letting the kids be kids. When you leave the kids at home, and dad can relax on Sunday. I promise you, Mom, you will get what you want.
I come to you in the morning and we go through the day. Your kids end up opening up because they are familiar with their surroundings. The photos speak to you because it is YOUR home and your things. Your kids will grow up remembering that kitchen table with that piggy mug you served them hot cocoa out of.
What is your authentic family? What is your day in the life look like? Now imagine you don’t have to wait to see the photos.
What if you got to see them that very day while sitting on your couch?
